Brendan MacFarlane, born in New Zealand, was graduated from the Southern California Institute of Architecture (Sci-Arc) in Los Angeles (1984), and received his Master degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Architecture in Cambridge (1990). He formed his partnership with Dominique Jakob in 1992 in Paris, where the office is based.

MacFarlane has taught at the Bartlett School of Architecture in London, at the École Speciale d’Architecture in Paris and at Sci-Arc in Los Angeles (2006).

The firm designed Restaurant George au Centre Pompidou (2000), the Orange Cube in Lyon (2010) , and the Les Turbulences, FRAC Centre, Orléans (2013).
